John Mahama and the NDC held a party in Accra to celebrate the victory of Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. Alban Bagbin was elected as the 8th Speaker of Parliament of the Fourth Republic. The party which was held in Accra was strictly by invitation. The party was attended by the Member of Parliament of the NDC and also some party officials. According to MyNewsGh.com sources, the party announced that it is the majority in parliament and proceeded to celebrate, while commending the leadership of the party in parliament who fought to give NDC the top leadership of parliament.
In the contested elections for the seat of the Speaker of Parliament, the former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament was announced as the new Speaker of Parliament of the Fourth Republic by polling 138 votes from his precursor Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye who had 136. One legislator failed to vote.
